Fedora 11 – Surround Sound Setup

To set up your surround sound first open up Terminal, or alternatively Alt+F2 and type the following in either:
gedit /etc/pulse/daemon.conf

Now you’re looking for this line, it may be commented out so make sure to remove the ‘;’ in order for it be seen.
default-sample-channels = 2
You might have a different amount of channels set there but simply change it the amount of speakers you have, the sub doesn’t count so 5.1 will be 5, 6.1 = 6, 7.1 = 7 etc..

Ok now you will need to restart you system for these changes to take effect once thats done test them out with this command:
speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -l1 -twav

Manuals:
pulse-daemon
speaker-test

Wordpress Installation Guide on 000webhost.com

What you will need:
The latest WordPress (www.wordpress.org)
000webhost account (www.000webhost.com)

Instructions:

  1. Grab the latest WordPress build from their site.
  2. Login to 000webhost.com.members, go to cpanel and use the File Manager (or any ftp client you prefer).
  3. Upload the wordpressx.x.x.zip to wherever you want your blog (public_html directory if you want it as your main page). Make sure to check the unzip button when uploading to extract the folder onto the server.
  4. At the moment your blob would show up as domain.com/wordpress, if this is not where you wanted it you can move it, I moved all the files in the wordpress directory to public_html which is why my blog apears when you visit www.alexsleat.com not www.alexsleat.com/wordpress.
  5. Back up to the cpanel and head to MySQL where you will want to create a new database and username, fill in the fields as you wish (example: database – wp, username – admin, password – password(choose something a little more secure ;p))

    MySQL database example

    MySQL database example

  6. Now make a copy of these details for a moment in text editor or notepad etc and head back to the File Manager where you will want to rename wp_config-samples.php to wp_config.php, now edit it and add in the details as below (if you used the example from above).// ** MySQL settings - You can get this info from your web host ** //
    /** The name of the database for WordPress */
    define('DB_NAME', '******_wp');

    /** MySQL database username */
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘******_admin’);

    /** MySQL database password */
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘password’);

    /** MySQL hostname */
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘mysql2.000webhost.com’);

  7. Now goto http://domainname.whatever and finish up the install by following the onscreen instructions

Done & done.

Extra:
If you wish to edit your themes you may have to change the permissions, for this I used FileZilla and browsed to the themes folder, right click on this and change the permissions to 777.

In order to be able to upload files, pictures etc you need to create an directory called “uploads” in the “wp-content” and again change the file permissions to 777.
